A group of Reston residents put on a food drive the weekend of March 28 to benefit the Giving Circle of Hope's fund-raising event, Empty Bowls. This is a benefit supper to raise money for Food for Others, which takes place on Friday, April 17, from 5:30-8 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church. For Empty Bowls, artisans donate pottery, restaurants donate food, Girl Scouts and Giving Circle of Hope members provide service and members of the community support the cause. All proceeds will go directly to Food for Others, the largest distributor of free food to the needy in Northern Virginia. Requests for assistance from Food for Others have increased 46 percent in the last six months.

For a minimum donation of $20, guests will choose a handmade pottery bowl and receive a simple supper of soup, bread, beverage and dessert. The bowl is theirs to keep as a reminder that there are empty bowls in the community. Tickets are available by contacting givingcircle@hotmail.com or calling the ticket hotline at 703-608-2231.
