Greenspring retirement community in Springfield recently presented 14 scholarships to area high school graduates. The recipients earned the scholarships by maintaining high grades and providing a minimum of 1,000 hours of service to Greenspring’s restaurants.
The 2009 winners of $6,000 scholarships are: Sivaporn Aimaree of Robert E. Lee High; Abdullah Amin of Fairfax High School; Diana Burga of Hayfield Secondary; Tyler Cartledge of Robert E. Lee High School; Jessica Christensen of Robert E. Lee High; Marwa Fadlalla of West Springfield High School; Taitu Gultneh of Robert E. Lee High; Othni Jones of Hayfield Secondary; Charles Mack of Hayfield Secondary; Monica Mazumdar of Lake Braddock Secondary; Wendy Preko of Annandale High; Pamela Renteria of Annandale High; and Jillian White of West Potomac High School.

One additional $1,400 scholarship, the Jessica Doubleday Memorial Scholarship, was presented in memory of Jessica Doubleday, a Greenspring employee who died last summer in a car accident. Deena Beshir, a graduate of Lee High, received that scholarship. Beshir, also a 2008 Greenspring scholarship winner, is a student at George Mason University.
The following six scholar candidates will receive $6,000 scholarships once they complete the work requirement at Greenspring: Mojtaba Amin of South County Secondary; David Chua of Robert E. Lee High; Ruben Dos Santos of Thomas A. Edison High; William "Max" Kinsella of Thomas A. Edison High; Michael Metrick of West Springfield High and Peter Park of West Springfield High.
