Hopkins & Porter Construction, Inc., a builder based in Potomac, partnered with its associates, sub-contractors, and suppliers and the Rotary Club of Potomac for the 7th year to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (HFH-MC).
On Saturday, July 25, some 100 people gathered for a pre-game picnic at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda where Hopkins & Porter was also sponsoring the evening’s Bethesda Big Train game. It was their custom to present a check during opening ceremonies to John Paukstis, executive director of HfH-MD on behalf of all the contributors. This year, a thunderstorm made it necessary to call the game, so, subsequently on Wednesday July 29, representatives from each of the contributing groups met Paukstis at Normandy Farm Restaurant in Potomac to hand him a check for $5,000. The 32 locally based companies that participated with Hopkins & Porter were A A Ontko Plumbing and Heating, AC & R Insulation, Academy Heating & Air Conditioning, Alliance Benefits & Compensation, Anto’s Custom Cabinetry, Bartholow Drywall Company, Consistent Cleaning, Cultured Marble, Custom Carpentry & Renovation, Downs & Associates, Ferguson Asset Management, Gardenfield, Giacolone Flooring, Huron Consulting Company, Irwin Stone, Lea Allen Design, Mark Gollub CPA PC, Mike Goldsholl, Norco Technologies, Outdoor Illumination, Perrine Planning & Zoning, Polytech Roofing & Siding, Reliable Electric Associates, Richter & Associates, Robert G. Brewer Jr., Rockville Window & Door, The Rotary Club of Potomac, Stouffer Bobcat, Sun Services, TW Perry Incorporated, Vallefuoco Contractors, and William Oshinsky, Esquire.
In the seven years that Hopkins & Porter has been organizing this fundraiser, the group has raised more than $44,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. Hopkins & Porter Construction has also volunteered for Big Train since its inception, designing, building, maintaining and recently restoring the hand-operated score board, bat and helmet storage, the dugout benches, the pitchers’ viewing platforms, and the trophy case. In 2007 they finished building an on-site radio and TV studio to broadcast the Big Train games via internet and cable. Hopkins & Porter is celebrating its 33rd year doing residential remodeling, new home construction, and handyman repairs throughout Washington, D. C. and Montgomery County.
