The Friends of Dyke Marsh gathered Sunday, Oct. 4, at the home of Larry and Kathy Hirsch to honor the group’s founders and U.S. Representatives John Dingell (D-15-Michigan) and Jim Moran (D-8-Virginia). Fifty years ago Dingell authored legislation that added the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve to the National Park Service system. Moran has introduced a resolution recognizing the significance of the preserve, H. Res. 701.
The Friends of Dyke Marsh is a volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the 485-acre Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, the last enduring substantial freshwater tidal marsh in the Washington, D. C., area. (See www.fodm.org and http://www.nps.gov/gwmp/dyke-marsh.htm.)
