Danh V. Nguyen graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. He is the brother of Thach V. Nguyen of Astors Beachwood Court, Chantilly. The cadet is a 2006 graduate of Broad Run High School, Ashburn.

Nicole M. Gonder has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. The cadet is a student at Longwood University, Farmville, Va. She is the daughter of Richard C. and Lora G. Gonder of Webley Court, Sterling. The cadet is a 2005 graduate of Potomac Falls High School, Sterling.

Assistant to the Chief and Public Affairs Officer Mary Maguire of the Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management has successfully completed a year-long Regional Executive Development program recognizing her as a Certified Public Manager. Along with Ms. Maguire, Loudoun County government employees Scott Berger and Barbara Zimmerman also completed the leadership development program.

Army Pvt. April F. Jaralba has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Jaralba is a 2005 graduate of Stone Bridge High School, Ashburn.

Amanda K. Maclean has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy. The six-week, two-phased orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to entering their freshman year. The training prepares men and women to meet the rigorous mental and physical challenges experienced by new cadets. She is the daughter of Donald Maclean of Hidden Cove Court, Potomac Falls. Maclean is a 2009 graduate of Dominion High School, Sterling.

Cadet Ian Young-han Garrett, son of Thomas and Myung-ok Garrett of Potomac Falls, completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy. Garrett entered West Point on June 29 and has successfully completed six weeks of CBT. Also referred to as "Beast Barracks," CBT is one of the most challenging events a cadet will encounter over the course of their four years at the academy. Garrett graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School of Science & Technology. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2013 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has appointed Glen Bayless to serve as the Sugarland Run representative on the Loudoun County Planning Commission.
Bayless will complete the term of Michael Keeney, which expires on Dec. 31, 2011. Keeney submitted his resignation to Board Vice Chairman and Sugarland Run Supervisor Susan Buckley, effective immediately.
Bayless is retired from the Fairfax County Public Schools system, having taught from 1977 to 2007. He also served as vice president of the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Ripon College in Wisconsin and completed teacher certification and graduate school work in health and physical education at the University of Maryland and George Mason University. Bayless was appointed to the Loudoun County Transportation Safety Commission in 2008.
