The Academy of General Dentistry announced that William R. Jackomis, DDS, of Leesburg, received the prestigious Fellowship Award during the AGD’s Convocation ceremony, a commencement celebration that recognizes AGD member’s commitment to excellence in dental education. Held at the AGD’s Annual Meeting & Exhibits on July 11 in Baltimore, Md., Dr. Jackomis accepted this award along with more than 220 other recipients.

Good Samaritan Council 6175, Knights of Columbus will stage its 28th Annual Columbus Day Parade Saturday, Oct. 10 in Sterling Park.
An invitation has been extended by Grand Knight Len Grus to all those individuals and organizations in the community and area to participate in this annual patriotic event. Participants such as bike riders, marching bands or musical groups, community or civic organizations, antique cars, military units, special floats, athletic leagues, and school groups are all welcome to participate.
The parade will form at Park View High School and the first unit will step off at 10 a.m. Line of march will be down Laurel Avenue to Sterling Boulevard, south on Sterling Boulevard to Holly Avenue and west on Holly Avenue to the K of C "Barn". The members of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association elected new officers for 2009/2010. Elected as Treasurer, Stephen O. Simpson, Loudoun County; Secretary, Beth Arthur, Arlington County; Second Vice President, Danny Diggs, York County-Poquoson; First Vice President, Sheriff Ryant L. Washington of Fluvanna County; and President, Sheriff Charles E. Jett, Stafford County. Sheriffs elected as officers will serve a one-year term leading the 7,800 member organization.
The Annual Conference of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association was held in Norfolk, and was attended by over 350 sheriffs, deputy sheriffs and special guests from across Virginia. Also represented at the conference were over 80 professional exhibitors displaying the latest crime-fighting equipment. Keynote speakers included representatives from the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate.

The Boys & Girls Club of Loudoun County has hired Denise Andorfer, an Indiana native and veteran Boys & Girls Clubs professional to head up its efforts. Andorfer will spearhead the organization’s fund-raising as well as the operations for its three school-based sites in Loudoun County including Simpson, Stone Hill and Sterling Middle Schools. The organization, which was founded in 2006, provides afterschool and summer programs for youth and is a chartered member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which hosts 4,300 Clubs nationwide.
