Students at Briar Woods High School in Ashburn will be honoring wounded veterans at the last home football game of the season, Nov. 6, in advance of Veterans Day.
Logan Williams, a teacher at Briar Woods, hopes to raise funds to enable "wounded warriors" from Walter Reed Hospital and their families to have bus transportation to the game. All veterans, reserve and active duty personnel will get into the game for free.
"We are trying to raise awareness for Operation Homefront and Wounded Warriors right before Veterans Day," he said.
"It will give them a chance to add some 'normalcy' to their lives," Williams added.
The soldiers and families will also be honored at a catered dinner before the game in the school's cafe.
Students also are collecting gift grocery store cards to help the families who stay in condos near Walter Reed in order to be near their wounded family member.
