Gov. Tim Kaine presented Claremont Elementary School in Arlington with the Governor's Nutrition and Physical Activity Gold Award on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The program promotes health and wellness in Virginia's public schools by encouraging good nutrition and increased physical activity. Schools earn either a bronze, silver, or gold award for best practices that promote healthy lifestyles while combating childhood obesity, hypertension, and other preventable diseases. The school is located at 4700 S. Chesterfield Road, Arlington.
Amy Leigh Vassallo, a resident of Arlington, has earned an Associate in Science from Excelsior College.
Yorktown High School Crew Wreath Sale! Consider supporting Yorktown Crew by purchasing a fresh and fragrant, decorated with pine cones and a red velvet bow, 24-inch balsam wreath. The Yorktown High School Marching Patriots Band will host this year’s Arlington Band Showcase, on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. This year’s program will feature marching bands from the county’s three high schools — Wakefield, Washington-Lee and Yorktown. Participating bands from the high schools will present their half-time marching shows. Performances by local middle school bands are also planned as part of the program that evening.
