The Saxon Stage and Langley High School Theatre Arts will present “Time’s Square 2090” onstage Nov. 12-14.

“I am so pleased with this presentation,” said Phyliss Jaffe, director of the show. “They have been working so hard to make this a success and they deserve to see that happen.”

The show takes place in the “dystopia” of New York City in late 21st century. Marissa Lamb, who is one of the privileged few in the futuristic society, decides to protest the tyrannical Julius Nichols' government and his mysterious war. She refuses to eat or drink anything and is on hunger strike, sitting in the middle of Times Square, hoping to gain support from the largely apathetic masses. But Nichols, who would ordinarily put down any rebellious action to his regime, has a change of heart upon seeing Marissa's beauty and lets her carry on with the protest indefinitely. This upsets the political balance in America's new capitol (Central Park is now Central Palace), with the jealous and conniving First Lady getting new ideas, and the city's expanses of people in poverty growing uneasy. A mother and son trying to sustain themselves are thrown into the mix. The McCalls, as well as the Lamb and the Nichols families are at the center of the chaos that erupts as political aspirations, truth-seeking and basic hunger tear at America's new fragile undemocratic system.

“It’s going to be a great show,” said Ashley Johnson, who is in the chorus and is one of the featured dancers. “Wesley is so talented and we can’t wait to present the show.”

Wesley G Brandt, a senior at Langley and the writer of the show said he started working on the show in January and finished it during the summer. When asked what his goals are for the show, Brandt said he wants everyone to enjoy it and understand that people can make things happen if they set their minds to a goal.

“I wanted to write something that would make our generation stand out,” Brandt said. “This show comes from our time and can be understood by everyone.”
