Scouts Collect Food Saturday
Each year, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts collect nonperishable food items for the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries’ food pantry. It’s now that time again, and they’re hoping people will open up their hearts to help the WFCM feed people in need.
Last Saturday, Scouts distributed Scouting for Food bags to homes in Centreville, Chantilly and Clifton for residents to fill with canned goods and boxed food. They’ll return, this Saturday, Nov. 14, to pick up the bags and deliver them to the food pantry. Residents should leave the bags outside their front doors by 9 a.m.
Especially needed are: Soup, canned meats and tuna, dry pasta, dried beans, oil, pancake mix, syrup, baked beans, Hamburger Helper, canned fruits and beans, and cake and frosting mixes. Also needed are size 5 diapers and toiletries, as well as flour, sugar, fruit juice, dried beans, hot cereal, coffee, tea, condiments, and canned evaporated and sweetened condensed milk.

Discussed will be transportation in and near Sully District and the surrounding area. Selby Thannikary, chief of the Traffic Operations Section, FCDOT, will discuss proposed parking rules.
Free Carseat Inspections
Certified technicians from the Sully District Police Station will perform free, child safety carseat inspections Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5-8:30 p.m., at the station, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. No appointment is necessary. But residents should install the child safety seats themselves so technicians may properly inspect and adjust them, as needed.
However, because of time constraints, only the first 35 vehicles arriving on each date will be inspected. That way, inspectors may have enough time to properly instruct the caregiver on the proper use of the child seat. Call 703-814-7000, ext. 5140, to confirm dates and times.
Neighborhood Cut-Through Crackdown
To deter dangerous, cut-through driving in local neighborhoods, police officers from the Sully District Station initiated a high-visibility
enforcement campaign from Oct. 19-30. Officers issued 116 summonses,
primarily for speeding, ignoring stop signs and improper passing. They focused on residential streets and intersections where drivers frequently cut through in an effort to save time and distance. The enforcement effort took place mainly from 3-7 p.m., as children walked home from school and commuters drove home from work.
