If the idea of battling the crowd at the neighboring mall doe not look that attractive this holiday shopping season and you’d rather not battle the traffic on Route 7, plenty of gifts and knickknacks are available right in town.
One place to start gift shopping is Cathy’s Corner, a store filled with small gifts, stationary and jewelry, located in the center of town. Some of the items for the holiday season include beaded clutches and handbags, ranging from $60-$80 that will spruce up any casual or formal outfit. In addition to the entire wall filled with Vera Bradley merchandise, another item from Cathy’s Corner, which storeowner Cathy Moran calls her “best sellers,” are the various duffel and garment bags in different patterns that would work as a gift for any age. To add a personalized touch, many items at Cathy’s Corner can be monogrammed with names or initials.
Looking for gifts that add to the festive cheer of the winter months? Head across the street to Bedheader’s Home, a furniture and accessory store located across the parking lot from the Great Falls Tavern. Bedheader’s Home, owned by Joan Barmat, just unloaded its stock for the holiday season. Christmas-themed handtowels and cocktail napkins line the store, along with holiday aprons for any baking-enthusiast.
The Saddlery off of Walker Road, a store primarily for horse products and clothing, offers choice for those who are not necessarily horse enthusiasts. “You don’t have to be a horse person to shop here,” said The Saddlery’s Flor Dougherty. The Saddlery also sells various holiday gifts that would decorate a house, such as “Monty” the singing dog. Press Monty’s paw and he breaks out into holiday song, complete with mechanical dancing ears choreographed to music. The Monty dog is selling for $35.99.
Those looking to get in better shape in the New Year can consider Max Youth Performance and Fitness off of Walker Road. The business offers advanced training with the help of Doug Vasiliadis, the founder of the program. Students 8 to 18 can improve their athleticism through the Max fitness program with a membership fee of $29 per month, plus the cost of additional sessions. Children are placed according to age group and ability. Max Performance and Fitness is also available for personal training sessions for all ages for $69 per session.
Great Dogs in the Village Center offer a holiday gift for a favorite cat or dog. Soft, plush beds for dogs of all sizes start at $109, as well as a fleece coats for dogs of all sizes starting just under $25. Need a more holiday-inspired gift for your dog? Pick up Christmas and holiday inspired chew toys in the shape of candy canes, snowballs, and gingerbread men, all approximately $11 each.
