Centreville Preschool Inc. (CPI) is hosting an Open House on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration packets will be available for the 2010-2011 school year beginning in September. Morning and afternoon co-op and non co-op classes are available to children who turn 3 or 4 years of age by Sept 30, 2010. A beginner's non co-op morning class is offered to children who turn 2 1/2 by Sept 30th. The Centreville High School Media Center is holding a fund-raising event on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 3-4 at the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Fair Lakes Promenade Shopping Center. Every time shoppers mention CVHS as they are paying for their purchases, in both the bookstore and the cafe, a portion of the proceeds will be donated by the bookstore back to the Media Center. Centreville High School will bring a myriad of entertainment to the store to celebrate the holidays, including holiday music from their award-winning Performing Arts Department, face-painting, and a kids' story time with special guests.
The Westfield High School Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic and Concert Bands will present "A Holiday Extravaganza" on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at Westfield High School. Admission is a new toy that will be donated to Our Neighbor's Child.
The Westfield High School Wind Symphony under the direction of Steve Panoff will be joined by Prelude on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. for "A Holiday Prelude". Join this evening of music and entertainment followed by a Holiday Dessert Reception. Admission is free; donations accepted.
Alyssa Ackerman of Clifton, a senior majoring in communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, was chosen to be a house supervisor at Virginia Tech for the 2009-10 academic year. In order to be chosen as a house supervisor, students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing, complete at least 30 credit hours, take a training course, and go through an extensive interview process. House supervisors live in the residential halls with other students and each serves as a peer advisor and university liaison to their student residents. They help to foster relationships between residents, plan activities and educational programs, serve as a resource for university and community services, and enforce residence hall and university policies.
Centreville resident Maurine Anderson who attends Westfield High School has been recognized by the U.S. Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in Science. She was nominated by Robin Taylor, a chemistry teacher at Westfield High School. She will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy's Official Yearbook, which is published annually. Maurine is the daughter of Maurice and Carol Anderson of Centreville, and the grandparents of Dennis and Audrey Thurman of Silver Spring, Md.
More than 700 students at Chantilly High School learned the importance of saving and spending money wisely when the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation (NWFCU Foundation) presented the Reality Store to the senior class of Chantilly High School on Oct. 14.
The Reality Store, a budget simulation workshop, assigns individuals a future life scenario that includes financial and familial status. Using the life scenario, students create a budget by making choices on expenditures for everyday living expenses, such as housing, transportation and food. Students attending the workshop faced the reality of making real life budgetary choices and the importance of making wise financial decisions. The students were assisted by 56 volunteers including NWFCU employees and members, local school teachers and administrators, parents and community volunteers.
Chantilly High School’s National Honor Society, Student Government Association, and Performing Arts Department invites all veterans and present service men and women to a Veterans Day Dinner to honor and thank them for their service to the country.
This is a complimentary dinner with a short program centered on a patriotic theme followed by a guest speaker. The dinner will be hosted by Chantilly Academy’s Chef Clay Doubleday and served by students in the NHS and SGA. It will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the school at 4201 Stringfellow Road in Chantilly.

Kotagiri, a junior from Centreville High School, was one of 96 rising junior and senior high school students from across the commonwealth selected to participate in the month-long summer residential program for gifted students interested in agriculture and natural resources.
