Cellist Steven Girard recently earned first-place honors in the 2005 Wisconsin American String Teachers Association (ASTA) competition on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Girard, a 2001 graduate of James W. Robinson Jr. Secondary School and a senior at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., is the son of James Girard and Constance Diamant of Fairfax Station.
