When he was six years old, Evan Eyo's father took him to a sports camp near T.C. Williams High School. At the time, Eyo developed a passion for sports which would burn in him throughout high school.
"[Eyo] is a role model for success," said Hayfield Secondary Director of Student Activities Stephen Kewer.
Eyo was a four year member of the Hayfield Secondary baseball program, including two years on the varsity squad. In those two years he earned Patriot District Honorable Mention as a junior, and a Second-Team All-District selection his senior year.
He also devoted all four years of high school to basketball, three of which he spent on the varsity team. As a senior he was the team captain and led the team in rebounding, while receiving Second Team All-District honors.
Just to be sure no season of high school sports was missed, Eyo played football for the Hawks as well. It is in football that his athletic ability showed as he played a different position each year. As a freshman, Eyo was a quarterback. As a sophomore he played running back for the varsity team. The following year, Eyo was moved to a wide receiver position where he earned Second-Team All-District honors. His senior year Eyo split time between quarterback and defensive back, earning First-Team All-District recognition for his time in the Hawks' defensive secondary.
"Always adjusting teaches you responsibility," said Eyo.
The senior, who carried a 3.48 GPA, will be heading to Penn State University next year. He is excited to be going to the main campus of one of college sports' most recognized schools, even though he is currently not planning on playing sports. But one never knows. "I will miss sports, so I probably will try out for something," he said.
