Highlanders’ Successful Football Season Concludes
A remarkable turnaround football season ended for the McLean Highlanders last weekend when they lost to Lee, 42-18, in a Div. 5 Northern Region quarterfinals playoff game.
McLean, with the loss, finished the season 6-5, a vast improvement from last year’s winless season.

Oakcrest Captures Volleyball Title
In the second year of its volleyball program, the Oakcrest School of McLean recently won the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference (PVAC) double-A Division with a dramatic win over rival Sandy Spring Friends School. The championship game was held at the Washington International School.

It’s Playoff Time for High School Football Teams
It’s time for the Northern Region football playoffs following the conclusion of the regular season this past weekend. Four Div. 6 (larger enrollment schools), and four Div. 5 (smaller schools) first round playoff games are slated for this Friday night.

McLean's Russo to Play Baseball at VMI
McLean High senior Chris Russo has verbally committed to attend Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to play baseball. Russo, recruited as a middle infielder, is an outstanding player and has had a great career at McLean. Last year, as a junior, he earned First Team All-Liberty District honors as a second baseman. The year before that, as a sophomore, he earned Honorable Mention All-District recognition.

McLean’s Football Defense – A Work in Progress
The last two weeks have been tough ones for the McLean High football defense, but for the most past this season the Highlanders’ `D,’ overseen by assistant coach and defensive coordinator Greg Sullivan, has been one of the great stories in the team’s terrific turnaround season.

The 13-under Potomac Travel Baseball team, the Generals, were tournament champions at the Columbus Day Classic held on the weekend of Oct. 10 at the Sports at the Beach Complex in Rehoboth, Del.

Highlanders qualify for region field hockey tournament
The McLean High girls’ field hockey team won its first round game over Jefferson, 2-1, at the Liberty District tournament on Oct. 19. Senior Casey Alexander scored both of McLean’s goals. Assists came from Olivia Applewhite and Caitlin Baker.

McLean’s Football Playoff Chase Slowed Down by Fairfax
Jim Patrick’s McLean High football team is coming off its worst loss of the season. But the road is not going to get easier this Friday night when the Highlanders host defending Div. 5 Northern Region champion Stone Bridge.
