Hearings on Fairfax County’s FY2003 budget will begin Monday, April 8, and continue for three consecutive evenings.

A public hearing on the county’s “effective tax rate,” $1.23 per $100 of market value on real estate, will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8.

Public hearings on the budget begin each evening at 7:30 p.m. The list is full for Monday, with 73 speakers scheduled.

Speaker lists are also full on the other two nights, with 80 people scheduled on Tuesday, April 9, and 90 on Wednesday, April 10.

A board clerk is taking names for a “hand-raiser” list of people who want a chance to speak at the end of the Wednesday hearing. If that list becomes full, a fourth evening of hearings will be scheduled on Thursday, April 11.

To be added to that list, call 703-324-3151.

A public presentation by Fairfax County Public Schools is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9.

All hearings will be held in the Board Auditorium at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, in Fairfax.

They will also be televised live on Cable Channel 16.
