Councilmember Howard Denis (R-1) and the Montgomery County Council passed a proclamation honoring each of the players and coaches on Winston Churchill High School's girls basketball team, which won this year's Maryland state 4A girls basketball championship in March.
As Denis passed out certificates to the players, he recited the various statistics of the game.
Councilmember Nancy Dacek (R-2) helped Denis honor the state champs.
"Having five children who graduated from Churchill, I know the history of Churchill basketball. I was the mother of field hockey state champions but never basketball," said Dacek.
The ceremony preceded a session devoted to an overview of the Montgomery County FY 03 Operating Budget, see pages 3, 7, 10.
