Funds for Parkway Ok'd

A grant totaling $150,000 to study and design trail improvement alternatives along the George Washington Memorial Parkway has been approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

U.S. Senator George Allen said that the Virginia Department of Transportation was awarded the money and will target improvements at the traffic circle intersection of the Mount Vernon Memorial Parkway and Virginia State Route 235.

This project will improve access to, and within, public lands owned and maintained by the National Park Service. It will improve pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle access and safety for visitor access to the Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. The project is part of an overall visitor infrastructure improvement at the estate.
