Loudoun County firemen once again demonstrated this weekend what true heroes they are to our community. After they bravely battled a large fire all night and into the morning, local firemen, led by Christopher Noorgard, set aside their exhaustion and provided fantastic fire safety session as scheduled for the local EF au pairs and their host families living in the Leesburg and Ashburn areas.

The session was part of EF Au Pair’s required seasonal continuing education program, for which has been designed in accordance with the National SAFE KIDS Campaign. The au pairs and the families for whom they work learned how a fire house operates, and engaged in important discussions about fire safety and prevention tips at the Leesburg Fire Station.

Steven Yarbrough of Troop 970 was chosen as one of six Eagle Scouts from the National Capitol Area Council to attend the Fifth Annual Boy Scouts of America/Boy Scouts of Japan International Exchange, which took place March 7-17.

Thirty Eagle Scouts and Venturers, including four female Venturers,

traveled from around the country to attend this year's conference, which was hosted by the government of Japan. Over the 10-day event, Steven attended the official conference, met with Japanese governmental and Scouting officials, toured the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Nagoya, and stayed with a Japanese Scout family for several days. Steven had the opportunity to try all kinds of new foods, customs and traditions, and with his special interest in art, do calligraphy and Japanese style arts and crafts. He was

presented with an authentic kimono and Japanese Scout uniform from the family with whom he stayed.

Eight candidates ran for the three vacant positions, which each carry a two-year term. The new members were elected on votes from a total of 591 members represented by ballots or proxies. That represented the highest voter turnout in Ashburn Farm history. France, Salman, and Vera will begin their terms at the May 7 Board of Trustees meeting, which will take place 7 p.m. in the Windmill Community Center.
