McBryde, 59, Painter

Sarah "Missy" McBryde, 59, of Potomac, died on April 21, 2002.

McBryde retired as an art librarian at the Martin Luther King Library in Washington, D.C. in 1992. She had been an art librarian there for 24 years.

McBryde graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. in 1964 where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gama Sorority.

In her youth, McBryde lived in Central and South America where she traveled extensively. She spent a year in Guatemala where she painted and lived among remote highland Indians. She also painted and lived among the Luna Indians on the San Blas Islands off the coast of Panama.

In addition to her paintings, McBryde was well known for her printmaking. Her Batik creations were very popular and enjoyed considerable success at the National Zoo and through one-person art exhibits.

She is survived by her husband, David C. Koch; her mother Frances V.W. McBryde; and her two brothers, Richard McBryde and John McBryde.
