Volunteers are needed to help with the new Reston Community Center After School Clubhouse at Terraset Elementary School starting Sept. 30. Volunteers will tutor children in grades 3-6 and help them do their homework. The Clubhouse will operate three afternoons a week, on Mondays from 1:20-4 p.m. and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:40-6 p.m. The Clubhouse Program runs through May 3, 2003. The Clubhouse will be closed on snow days and holidays. The Clubhouse Program is designed to provide children with a safe, familiar environment that is conducive to learning. Volunteers should have experience working with children and should be able to tutor elementary school subjects and help with school projects. If currently experiencing scheduling difficulties but would like to volunteer later in the school year, simply indicate the available dates on the application.
Dominion Trail Elementary School will host a live and silent auction on Saturday, Oct. 19. The school is seeking donations from local businesses who would like to participate. Businesses that participate will be included in the school's auction catalog. The event is free and open to the public. To make a donation, call Lynn Bullard at 703-425-6238.
