SHARE's Christmas Shop Offers One-Stop Shopping

The Christmas Shop in the parish hall at McLean Baptist Church is always busy, but this year, it bustled more than ever.

Jean Respass, the store chairman, said more than 1300 families were served, visiting the store to select gifts for their families. Many families also received gift certificates for groceries.

On the last day, SHARE received 27 families referred by Fairfax County, Respass said.

SHARE, supported by donations from churches, groups, and individuals, passes on 98 percent of those monies to recipients.

All of SHARE’s workers are volunteers, and it has no overhead because McLean Baptist donates the space.

Throughout the year, SHARE operates a food pantry for families that need help. “I give food out every week,” said Respass, who is also chairman of the food room.

To donate gift certificates, toys, or warm clothing “right up until Christmas,” call (703) 356-8818, said Respass.

Teenagers in particular need gift certificates; they are available from information kiosks at Tysons Corner. Teens also like to receive Target gift certificates.

The American Legion Post 270 held a special party for the children last week, said Respass.
