<sh>Schools Seek Construction Partnership
<bt>The Fairfax County School Board has approached the county Board of Supervisors about a public-private partnership to construct a high school in the Lorton area. School Board chairman Stuart Gibson, in a letter to Board of Supervisors chairman Katherine Hanley (D), asks the county to pursue the project, which could have a developer build the facility and lease it back to the school system. The School Board says the partnership could result in an accelerated construction timetable and could free up funds for other schools projects.
<sh>Bonds for Sale
<bt>The School Board unanimously passed a resolution Thursday, Feb. 21, requesting the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to issue and sell $130 million in school bonds approved in a 1999 referendum.
At the time, a total of $297 million was approved by the voters, and to date $34.73 million has been issued by the Board of Supervisors. The bond proceeds are earmarked for school improvement and construction projects.
