A four-week-old tiger cub just arrived at Leesburg Animal Park for educational programs. Presentations featuring the tiger cub will be given on Saturdays and Sundays at the Park. The cub will also be featured in many programs at schools in the area. The lemurs and squirrel monkeys are also on exhibit for viewing. The Virginia Commission for the Arts is accepting applications for 2002 Artist Fellowships in the following disciplines: crafts/photography/sculpture; fiction; music composition and choreography. Applications must be received by the VCA by Thursday, Aug. 1 in order to be considered. Awards of $5,000. will be made to each of the winners, depending upon the amount of state and federal funding available to the Commission. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) is hosting a series of three public hearings July 29-31 to receive and consider comments, suggestions, and alternatives from the public on the draft environmental impact statement and proposed general plans for the Dulles Corridor Rapid Transit Project, which include bus rapid transit and Metrorail service in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. An open house is at 6 p.m. followed by the hearing at 7 p.m. The Monday hearing is at Spring Hill Elementary School, 8201 Lewinsville Road in Mclean. The Tuesday meeting is at Langston Hughes Middle School, 11401 Ridge Heights Road in Reston. The Wednesday meeting is set for Stone Bridge High School, 43100 Hay Road in Ashburn.

In anticipation of the Public Hearings on the Dulles Corridor Rapid Transit Project's Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and General Plans, to be held July 29-31, the Project's Reston Information Center will offer extended hours, Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the lower level of the Spectrum at Reston Town Center, 1846-C Spectrum Center Drive. The Draft EIS may also be viewed at Fairfax and Loudoun County libraries and community centers, as well as the Tysons Corner Project Information Center Kiosk, open Monday-Saturday, from 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. and Sunday, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and www.dullestransit.com.

The Loudoun Academy of the Arts Foundation will sponsor a juried art exhibit. Each artist may submit two original works of art (in any media of drawing and painting, 2-D works only) for sale, framed and ready to hang with wire hangers. Work will be accepted for review on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 222 South King St. A $25 fee is due to Gallery 222 for artwork submitted. Host families for the 2002-03 school year are needed for a 17-year-old girl from Finland, a 16-year-old girl from Germany, and a 16-year-old boy from China. La Leche League meetings emphasize the joys of breast feeding while informing and encouraging mothers who wish to nurse their babies. Meeting discussions include the latest medical research as well as mothers' personal experiences. Colonial Camp, August 12-16, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children ages 7-12 will reenact a "mock congress", explore the American Revolution and Native American life and hear folk tales.
