The George Mason University Dance Company will begin its 2003 season with the 2003 Gala Concert. The Gala Concert is the Company's crowning season event. Presented in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, the event will feature works by contemporary professional choreographers and live music. Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre is a professional, modern dance company based out of Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus. Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre brings classic American modern dance to stage. KHGDT holds both informal studio and formal performances. A free informal studio performance will be held Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., at NVCC Alexandria, to preview new works. These new works will be showcased in a formal performance Nov. 1, 8 p.m. and Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m. The November shows will be held at the Schlesinger Center on NVCC’s Alexandria campus.

The Fairfax Ballet is a non-profit organization which provides performing opportunities for young qualified dancers. The company performs three major productions; a holiday showing of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," the Spring Ballet Concert and a Jazz, Tap and Modern Dance Revue.

The Reston Conservatory is a ballet school consisting of practical, theoretical and experience lessons in ballet, preparing students for public stage performances. Last fall’s Nutcracker marked the school’s 30th anniversary. This winter’s Nutcracker performance will be held at the Reston Community Center, Dec. 11-15.

The Country Steppers are the official Demonstration Dance Team of the Northern Virginia Country Western Dance Association. The Steppers take country western dance into the community by demonstrating all aspects of traditional country western dance and by teaching the dance basics. The Country Steppers are performing at "America’s Country Fair" at the Ritz Carlton in Tyson’s Corner Sat., Sept. 21 at 8 p.m.

Classical Ballet Theatre is a non-profit ballet academy affiliated with the Classical Ballet Academy. For the last 10 years, the Classical Ballet Academy has been providing classical ballet classes at all levels. The Academy puts on an annual Nutcracker production to showcase the talents of their students. Classical Ballet Theatre puts on at least one full length production a year, in addition to "Summer Festival," a mixed-piece performance produced each spring. The Virginia Ballet Company and School was established in 1965 for the purpose of providing ballet training of the highest quality and performances of artistic merit which would be of cultural value to the Northern Virginia community. Virginia Ballet is a pre-professional school providing classical ballet training to boys and girls, youth to adult. The school performs at least two major performances a year. The annual winter production of the Nutcracker will take place Dec. 27, 28 and 29 at the Northern Virginia Commmunity College campus in Annandale. Another production, Hans Christian Andersen's "Red Shoes" will be held at NVCC-Annandale, April 26 and 27, 2003.

Founded in 1978, the Loudoun Ballet Company has brought ballet to Loudoun County and other areas along the East Coast including Maryland and Washington, D.C. In the past, the company has performed shows including "The Nutcracker" and "Peter and the Wolf". The company repertoire includes "And So It Begins", "Colours of Spring" and Pachabel's "Canon in D". The oldest dance instructional institution in Loudoun County, the Loudoun School of Ballet provides serious instruction for dancers.
