The Potomac Area Newcomers Club, open to all new residents who have moved to the Potomac and Bethesda areas, offers the opportunity for friendships and activities while exploring the area. The club of 270 women holds a monthly meeting as well as activities throughout the month.

"This gives women the chance to meet people in the same situation and instantly make friends," said Mary Pat Laslie, a member.

Members can participate in activities such as a Lunch Bunch, Theater Group, Museum Tours, Moms and Tots and book discussions. Some women play tennis or golf, jog, garden, walk their dogs or play Bridge, Bunco or Mah-jongg in groups. During the summer months, potluck luncheons replace their General Meetings.

"The best part is that it's totally non-selective, anyone can join the fun," said Jane Furguson, president of the club.

The membership fee is $25, which also includes the monthly newsletter.

"This is just the place to start. Plus, the women are an awful lot of fun," said Furguson.
