Shooting Victims Recovering

Police Aren't Sure It's Gang-related

Three of the four Alexandria teens who were shot on June 8, have been released from the hospital and the fourth is expected to make a full recovery.

The victims were in the back parking lot of Cameron Commons, an apartment complex in the 4200 block of Duke Street at around 12:45 a.m. on June 9, when the shooting occurred. Police found three of the victims in the parking lot and courtyard of the apartment complex and learned about the fourth victim when he sought treatment at Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Two of the victims, a 14-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, were transported by ambulance to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where the 14-year-old underwent surgery. All of the victims are expected to make a full recovery.

THERE ARE THREE suspects who are described only as male, wearing dark clothing. They fled the scene on foot and have not been located.

Although there is some concern that the shooting is gang-related, police are investigating all possibilities. None of the victims were residents of Cameron Commons.

“We have increased police presence at both of the city’s middle schools, at Minnie Howard and at T. C. Williams High School,” said Amy Bertsch, a spokesperson for the Alexandria Police Department. “In addition to the School Resource officers, there are uniformed officers at the schools, particularly in the morning and in the afternoon. Partly, this is to prevent the normal end-of-the-year mischief and it is also to collect intelligence.”

Gang violence is generally down in the city, according to officials and police have no reason at this time to suspect that there will be any type of retaliation for last weekend’s shootings.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Alexandria Police Department at 703-838-4444.
