Mothers and More, a support group for mothers who have altered their career path to stay home with their children, will meet on Thursday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center’s main building. “Thrilling Summer Seafood Grilling,” a dinnertime demonstration and tasting sponsored by the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department, will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Fresh Fields Whole Foods Market, 143 Maple Ave. E. Rodney King of Fresh Fields will demonstrate preparation and grilling tips for salmon, oysters, scallops and more with sizable tastings. Family Movie in the Park. Enjoy a favorite family movie outdoors at Vienna’s Glyndon Park beginning at dusk (around 8:45 p.m.). Admission is free. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Parents are required to stay with their children during the movie. Christian Women’s Club of Fairfax County will meet from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for a “Teddy Bears on Parade” luncheon. Rebecca Stalcup from Country Clutter will show collectible Boyd Bears, and the keynote speaker will be Millie Farthing from Winterhaven, Fla. Moodroom Concert Performance. moodroom is a five piece alternative pop band touring in support of their recently released debut full length album, entitled “Hung Up On Breathing” (Fowl Records). moodroom has recently performed at the HFStival at RFK Stadium. Open House at the new Northside Public Works Facility will be held on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Come see a display of Public Works vehicles and equipment and meet the department staff. The Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a yard sale fundraiser on Saturday, June 15th from 9am to 1pm. The sale will be held in our Community Hall and there is plenty of free parking in our parking lot. Table space is available for rent at $15 per table. Father’s Day Celebration will be held at Colvin Run Mill on Sunday, June 16, from noon-4 p.m., including free woodcarving lessons, free concert from 2-4 p.m. with the Mill Run Dulcimer Band, free tours of the mill and miller’s house for all dads accompanied by their children, and 50-cent hand-cranked ice cream. Eighteenth-Century Wheat Harvest at Claude Moore Colonial Farm, 1-4 p.m. Watch the farmer and his neighbors cut the grain, then join them to bind and stack the crop. Bike Trip for Adults. The Vienna Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a bike journey for adults along Pennsylvania’s York County Heritage Trail. A van will leave at 8 a.m. from the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. S.E., and return at 7 p.m. The fee of $68 per person includes transportation, lunch and snacks. Tuesday/June 18

Helen Thomas, White House press correspondent, will speak at McLean’s Alden Theater at the McLean Community Center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave., on Tuesday, June 18. She will sign copies of her new book, “Thanks for the Memories, Mr. President: Wit and Wisdom from the Front Row at the White House.” Free.
