Fairfax County police are investigating what appears to be a murder suicide in the Fort Belvoir area.
Police were called to Woodlawn Manor Court at around 7 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found 53-year-old Suhail Ilyas and his 14-year-old son, Aaron, dead and his 11-year-old son Zak, seriously wounded. Zak was air lifted to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where he died.
Ilyas had apparently waited until his wife, Kathy, got in the shower and shot the boys and himself. She heard the gunshots and ran from the shower to find the children and her husband.
The family had moved to the neighborhood just one year ago, when Ilyas purchased a convenience store. Neighbors said that Kathy Ilyas wanted to return to Texas with her sons. Police did not comment on whether there had been domestic problems at the home in the past but neighbors reported having heard Ilyas shouting at the children and his wife.
Aaron would have been a freshman at Mt. Vernon High School and Zak had just completed sixth grade at Washington Mill Elementary School.
