Teen Dies After Chase

Nineteen year old Foday Bamba Barrie died just after midnight Tuesday when the car in which he was riding crashed as the driver attempted to elude police.

Fairfax County Police said the driver, a 16-year-old male, failed to heed police attempts to stop and sped off traveling northbound on Richmond Highway at Lockheed Boulevard. The driver lost conrol of his 2000 Nissan and hit a traffic light pole at Collard Street.

Barrie, of 8575 Richmond Highway, was pronounced dead at the scene. A Fairfax County police helicopter medevaced the 16-year-old driver to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said speed was a factor in the crash and Barrie was not wearing a seatbelt. Police said the driver was not licensed and the investigation is continuing with charges pending.
