Mark Moszak is the new program administrator of Loudoun County's Environmental and Historic Resources Program (EHRP). Since joining the Loudoun County government in February 2001, Moszak has been the planning department's community planning program manager. In his new job, Moszak will oversee EHRP, which assesses, develops, and implements a plan for managing the county's environmental and historic resources.
Thanks to Loudoun County's Christmas Tree Recycling Program, the Solid Waste Management Facility has a fresh batch of free mulch available for Loudoun County residents. The county collected 21 tons of trees since the holidays. On Feb. 22, a fire broke out in a Sterling townhouse. Firefighters from Sterling and Fairfax County quickly responded and were able to bring the fire under control in a matter of minutes. The cause of the fire, which resulted in approximately $50,000 damage to the townhouse and an adjacent townhouse, is still under investigation by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office.
The Sterling Annex is offering three adult language classes. Sign Language I starts March 18. The classes take place 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and run for eight weeks. Participants will need to bring a copy of "The Joy of Signing" to each class. The course costs $60. A French for Beginners class will also start on March 18. The six-week class costs $45. Sign Language II starts on March 19 and runs for eight weeks. The cost is $60 and students will need to bring a copy of "The Joy of Signing" to each class. Free tax preparation assistance is being offered for senior citizens age 55 and older from Feb. 25 to April 4. Volunteers will help with preparation of the 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ forms, as well as state and local tax forms.
Assistance will be available at the following locations and times: Purceville Library from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; the Area Agency on Aging Office in Leesburg from 1-4 p.m. on Thursdays; the Senior Center at Cascades Marketplace from 1-4 p.m. on Mondays and at the Cascades Senior Center from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 and 23.
