A real-estate tax cut from the county will benefit local property owners. As part of its FY ‘03 General Fund budget process, the Arlington County Board lowered the rate from $1.023 to 99.3 cents per hundred dollars of assessed value.

Arlington’s real-estate tax rate has been historically among the lowest in the Washington area. The tax rate is unified, which means it is the same for both commercial and residential properties.

BizLaunch, Arlington’s Small-Business Propulsion Lab, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 7. BizLaunch will offer local businesses and entrepreneurs resources to help them achieve their goals, including research assistance, business advice and loan information.

Located in the offices of Arlington Economic Development (AED) at 1100 N. Glebe Road, Suite 1500, BizLaunch is a joint effort of AED, the Arlington County Public Library and the Arlington Small Business Development Center.

Potbelly Sandwich Works has opened a new location at 4250 Fairfax Drive. The 1500-square-foot store features seating for 40 people and is the third location in the Washington area. It is open Monday-Friday, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit www.Potbelly.com.

Mogul Capital Group (Mogul), a business strategy firm based in Arlington, has been selected to prepare a feasibility study for a virtual manufacturing and training center to be located in Charles County, Md. Mogul will also prepare a strategic plan for the facility once the feasibility study has been completed.

Arlington County in coordination with American Forests has memorial trees available for public or private property. The cost to reserve a tree is $11. Planting will take place in late fall 2002. Call 703-228-6525.
