Art Night Alive in Alexandria

The art world came alive again last Thursday as local galleries celebrated the beginning of a new season of Art Nights in Alexandria. The Torpedo Factory was alive with a special reception for Rosemary Feit Covey. She was the Friends 2001 Torpedo Factory Artist of the Year, and her artwork was hung in a special exhibit at the Target Gallery.

Inside the Target Gallery, Covey greeted guests as they viewed her artwork. Judith Wilsey, executive director of the Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, acknowledged Covey's contribution to the center and presented her with a special award.

Wine and hors d’oeuvres were served in the Torpedo Factory lobby for guests to enjoy as they wandered in and out of the other galleries, which also stayed open that evening.

Around town, other participating galleries held receptions. Broadway Gallery invited Linda Griffin for a "Meet the Artist" evening. Her watercolor paintings are currently on exhibit at both their Alexandria and Fairfax locations.

The next Art Night will be held on June 13 from 6-9 p.m. Participating galleries include Arts Afire Glass Gallery, Art Craft Collection, The Art League, Broadway Gallery, Century Gallery, Gallery RVS, Gallery West, Oceans of Wildlife, Prince Royal Gallery, Principle Gallery, and The Target Gallery at Torpedo Factory Art Center. Galleries will feature special exhibits and serve refreshments from restaurants such as Chadwick's, Union Street Pub, Mango Mike's, Stella's, Kingfish, Catering by Windows, The Majestic Cafe and Portner's. Visitors are welcome to board the DASH About, a free shuttle that starts at the King Street Metro station and stops near each participating gallery. For information, call 703-838-4565, Ext. 4.
