Gerald D. Shepherd, 90

Retired Army Col. Gerald D. Shepherd, 90, of Matthews, N.C., died Monday, May 20, at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Shepherd was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on April 17, 1912. He served with Gen. George S. Patton’s 255th Artillery Battalion in World War II, and also served with honors in the Korean War, then retired in 1962. Shepherd settled in Arlington, where he practiced real estate before his final retirement, in 1980, to Pinehurst, N.C. The colonel and his wife moved to Matthews in 1988, settling at Plantation Estates.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine, and a brother, Bruce Shepherd. Survivors include a daughter, Vickie L. Maness of Lawrenceville, Ga.; granddaughter, Debbi S. Lauder of Loganville, Ga.; grandson, Michael G. Gabriel of Snellville, Ga.; and great-granddaughter, Rebecca L. Acuff of Loganville, Ga.
