A burning package at Airborne Express on Eisenhower Ave., caused great concern but was found to be only phosphorus.
The Alexandria Fire and Police departments, officers from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the FBI responded to the scene at around 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 23. The package was marked Flammable When Wet and emitted smoke after the package was damaged.
Six people who complained of nausea, lightheadedness and other symptoms were transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital. The Fire Marshal’s office is continuing its investigation of the incident.
