Trio Pleads Guilty

Three Alexandria men pleaded guilty Wednesday in Alexandria Circuit Court to two counts of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson in exchange for dropping a charge of vandalism.

The pleas stemmed from an arson case involving two vehicle fires that occurred in the 200 block of South Whiting Street in the early morning hours of June 2, 2002.

One of the vehicles was an Alexandria Police Department cruiser and the other was the personal vehicle of a police officer. An exhaustive joint investigation between members of the Alexandria Police Department and the Fire Marshal's Office resulted in the arrest of the three men responsible in September.

Trent Turner, 22, Marcelous Hawkins, 19, and Russell Middleton, Jr., 19, found themselves before Judge Fortkort Wednesday where he accepted each men's pleas, found them guilty of the charges and ordered them to return to Circuit Court for sentencing on Jan. 30, 2003.

Each faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
