Pamela A. Holcomb of Arlington, a senior research associate at The Urban Institute, has been appointed by Gov. Mark R. Warner to the state Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect.
Jay Jacob Wind of Arlington won the 800-meter gold medal and set a meet record at Saturday's Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, held at Falls Church High School. Wind, 52, ran 2:41.9, breaking the old record of 3:00.0 held by David Bertagnoli, also of Arlington, set in 1999. Bertagnoli, 55, ran 2:49 for second place, first in the 55-59 age group.

VHDA’s annual Charity Invitational Golf Tournament benefits housing organizations, including charities that provide shelter to women and children in need. The 2002 tournamentt raised more than $63,000. On Sept. 19, VHDA presented TACTS, the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter and the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity $21,000 each. TACTS, located in Arlington, is a safehouse that provides shelter, food, information, referrals and case-management services to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence and without homes.
