Midshipman Peter Kravchonok in September participated in Acceptance Day ceremonies at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Kravochonok is the son of John and Trish Kravchonok of Burke. A graduate of Lake Braddock High School, Kravchonok and 258 other plebes were administered the Academy oath by Rear Admiral Joseph D. Stewar, the institution's superintendent. Kravchonok was selected as one of the 10 honor plebes.

Eric D. McCrory has been promoted to the rank of staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. McCrory is a visual information equipment operator-maintainer assigned to the 30th Signal Battalion at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. He is the son of Michele E. Lynch of Burke.

Kathryn D. Zuk and Calvin K.S. Bodiford, both of Springfield; Herbert J. Aldridge, a 1998 graduate of Edison High School in Springfield; and Corey J. Stavinohahave of Fairfax graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

Marine Corps 1st Lt. Robert E. Lingler, whose wife, Alyssa, is the daughter of Pat Schanely of Springfield, was recently designated a naval aviator while serving with Training Squadron Seven, Naval Air Station, Meridian, Miss. Lingler was presented with the Wings of Gold, marking the culmination of months of flight training.

Army Spec. David M. Heath has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Heath is the son of Kenneth R. and Barb A. Heath of Fairfax. He is a 1998 graduate of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Mitchell E. Wangsgard has completed basic cadet training and earned the rank of cadet fourth class at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Wangsgard is the son of Melissa and John Wangsgard of Springfield and a 2002 graduate of West Springfield High School.

Cadet Kristin Leigh Jenkins, daughter of Jim and Karen Jenkins of Springfield, is serving a term as a regimental personnel officer. Jenkins graduated from West Springfield High School in 1999. Her studies are concentrated in American politics and systems engineering. She plans to graduate in 2003 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

David S. Taylor has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. Taylor is the son of Joseph Z. and Rozanne L. Taylor of Burke.

Brian W. Tinklepaugh has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. He is the son of William C. and Margaret K. Tinklepaugh of Annandale.

The cadet is a 1999 graduate of Woodson High School in Fairfax.

Navy Seaman Kevin E. Richardson of Fairfax is halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, home ported in Norfolk, Va. Richardson is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS George Washington Carrier Battle Group and USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group. Richardson is a 1995 graduate of Fairfax High School and joined the Navy in 2002.

Raymond L. Reed III has graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Reed is the son of Raymond L. and Nancy K. Reed of Bentwood Court, Fairfax. He graduated in 1989 from W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, and received an associate degree in 2001 from Chaminade University of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Army 2nd Lt. Russell H. Fox has graduated from the Army Helicopter Flight School at Fort Rucker, in Daleville, Ala. Fox is the son of Robert Fox of Mallow Court, Springfield. He is a 1996 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Springfield, and a 2000 graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Daniel T. Adair, son of Susan B. and William T. Adair of 3115 Cranleigh Court, Fairfax, recently was promoted to his current rank while serving with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Adair is a 2001 graduate of Woodson High School in Fairfax.

Thomas “Tom” Knight was promoted to the top leadership ranks of the Air Force Junior ROTC detachment at Randolph-Macon Academy. Knight, a junior, is the son of Robert and Jane Knight of Burke.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Patricia A. Saegaert, a 1997 graduate of Lake Braddock High School in Burke, was recently promoted to her current rank while serving with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Va. Saegaert was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in her designated specialty.

Marine Corps Reserve Pfc. Timothy J. Healy, Jr., a 2000 graduate of Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, recently reported for duty with Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, 4th Division, Moundsville, W. Va.

Air Force Senior Airman Steven T. Johnston has graduated from Airman Leadership School at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, N.M. Johnston is a tactical aircraft maintenance journeyman assigned to the 524th Fighter Squadron. He is the son of Richard W. and Jerry J. Johnston of Myrtle Leaf Drive in Fairfax. The senior airman is a 1995 graduate of Will C. Wood High School, Vacaville, Calif.
