Second grade student at Sunrise Valley Elementary School, Bobby Rae Allen of Reston, responded to “Highlights for Children” with his offering to “The Funniest Thing Happened!”

The eight-year-old said, “One day I wanted to go outside, so I put my shoes on and opened the glass door and walked right into the screen door!” (Reprinted with permission from “Highlights for Children.”)

He is the son of Rob and Tara Allen and enjoys reading, writing, fishing, building things and arts and crafts. His future plans include becoming a rock star.

Marymount University and Fairfax County Public Schools offer a collaborative, one year route to elementary teacher licensure and a Master of Education Degree. The teaching internship is called the Professional Development Academy. An Open House will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 7-9 p.m., at Sunrise Valley Elementary School, 10824 Cross School Road, Reston.

The South Lakes bands will host their free Tag Day concert on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m., in the Little Theater at South Lakes High School, 11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston.

The marching band will perform the music from their award winning show “Carmen.” The band won first place in Music at the Spotsylvania High School Marching Invitational. This was their first performance at the class AAA level.

The Wind Ensemble will perform works by Copland, Grainger and Ticheli. The Wind Ensemble is the highest performance level band at South Lakes.

Reston resident Margaret O’Gorman has enrolled at Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences as an arts and sciences major. Syracuse is in Syracuse, N.Y.

Margaret Elise Eichler of Reston accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, honored at a September ceremony at The College of William and Mary. The Society is a highly selective, national, non-profit honors organization recognizing first and second year undergraduate students who excel academically. Eichler is a junior majoring in Asian studies.
