The following is a list of events taking place at the Loudoun County Public Libraries.

<cal2>Luis Rodrigez, activist, teacher and award-winning author of "Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.," will be appearing live at the Loudoun County Public Library. On Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Waddell Theater, Northern Virginia Community College Loudoun Campus, 1000 Harry Flood Byrd Highway, Sterling. He will present a public program followed by discussion and book signing. On Sept. 21, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Rust Library, 380 Old Waterford Road, Leesburg, Rodrigez will hold a teacher's workshop on creative writing and addressing needs of Latino students in the classroom. <cal2>Kallie Dakos presents "Don't Read This Book, Whatever You Do!" Poems about school. Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. For more information, call 703-777-0368.

Reader's Theater-A Chance to Act." For children 8 to 12. This program will be offered Wednesdays at 4 p.m., Sept. 11-Dec. 11. Children will read from a script and perform in a non-threatening atmosphere. College Essay Writing Workshop. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. This workshop is open to all high school juniors and seniors. Robert M. Otten of Marymount University will present this program on writing a college application essay that targets a student's strengths and accomplishments. Advance registration is required. One-on-One Internet training at Eastern Loudoun Regional Library, Sundays from 7-8:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 2-4 p.m., and at Purcellville Library (call 540-338-7235 for dates). Homework Helpers. 7-830 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 and Wednesday, Oct. 9. The Eastern Loudoun Regional Library reference staff will present "Homework Helpers: Library Resources for Homework Help." <cal1>Rust Library

<cal2>"Database Cafe" at Rust Library, Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The new database instruction class teaches the usage of the library's Web-based databases to locate graphics, including images of famous people, historical events and landscapes. Database Cafe is a monthly series of programs highlighting practical uses of the library's print and electronic resources. Everyone of age 10 and up is welcome and refreshments will be offered. Detection! A Club for Mystery Lovers. On Wednesday, Oct. 2 and Nov. 6 from 7-8 p.m., the Rust Library will hold its mystery club Detection! A Club for Mystery Lovers. Have you met Jigsaw Jones? Are Cam, Encyclopedia, Nancy and favorite detective characters? If your like mysteries, join us at the "scene of the crime" for book talks, puzzles, games and more. Advance registration is required. The American Girl Club will meet at the Rust Library on Thursday afternoons this fall (Oct. 3, and Nov. 14). It is for ages six to 10, this club is a monthly gathering of American Girl fans, featuring book discussions and fun activities. Advance registration required. Book It! On Wednesday evenings this fall — Sept. 18, Oct. 23 and Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. — the Rust Library will host its book discussion group for children ages 9-10. The reading list is as follows: Sept. 18, "Call It Courage" by Armstrong Sperry; Oct. 23, "A Long Way from Chicago" by Richard Peck; and Nov. 20, "The Westing Game," by Ellen Raskin. Fall adult book discussion group. The following books have been selected for this fall's adult book discussion group: "My Dream of You" by Nuala O'Faolain on Monday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday Sept. 24 at 10 a.m.; "Years of Wonder" by Geraldine Brooks on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m.; and "Wish You Well" by David Baldacci on Monday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. There will be a special book discussion group with the children's book discussion group "Book It" on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. The book being discussed is "A Long Way from Chicago" by Richard Peck. Marcoliva, a duo featuring violinists Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff, will perform on Sunday, Sept. 22 selections from their multinational repertoire. Afternoon Adventures Kids Club takes place every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sterling Library, 120 Enterprise St., Sterling. Activities include stories, songs and games.
