Civilian Derek K. McVay of Springfield and Marine Corps Reserve Pfc. Timothy J. Healy, Jr. of Fairfax recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy’s week-long summer program in Annapolis, Md.

During the program, participants were introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities. The summer seminar program was designed by the U.S. Naval Academy’s office of admissions to give students a taste of the challenges and benefits of a Naval Academy education.

Sean P. Parvis of Springfield, Corey L. Perrine of Springfield, Department of the Army Civilian Jonathan E. Darden of Springfield and Department of the Army Civilian Aaron M. Fegley of Burke recently graduated from the Army ROTC National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington. The camp provides professional training and evaluation of all cadets through the aspects of camp life, while focusing on each cadet’s officer potential. At the end of camp, cadet command evaluated each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism.

Sean A. France of Burke, Jill A. Denhert of Springfield, and Katherine A. Bultemeier of Fairfax have entered basic training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Col., to prepare for their first academic year at the academy.

The five-to-six-week orientation program will train men and women to meet the mental and physical challenges of being a cadet.
