Thank you for the guidance contained in "Verbatim: County Sign Laws” (Potomac Almanac, Sept. 18-24).
One important point was omitted however. Do citizens who believe campaign signs are a form of environmental pollution have the right to remove signs that are placed in the public right of way? Do community residents who consider the unsightly advertising to be no different than other forms of litter and trash have the right to clean up the roadways if they so desire?
The custom of posting political campaign signs is clearly out of control and the County Department of Permitting Services seems unable to enforce the applicable rules. "A maximum of four signs are allowed per candidate" in the public right of way? When was the last time that standard was followed?
