Woodson High School

On Wednesday Woodson announced its National Merit Semifinalists: John Adams, Daniel Cassiday, Rachel Gross, Lee Roberts, Andrew Robinson and Kristin Saenger. No other community-based FCPS high school has more, and only one has six. This honor is based on the October 2002 PSAT/NMSQT Test and represents performance in the top .4 percent in the state. Also, Woodson’s average SAT score went up slightly last year.

The test will be given again at Woodson on Tuesday, Oct. 15 to determine winners from the current junior class. FCPS will pay for registration for sophomores, but others must pay $14. On Oct. 3 and 10, freshmen will take the Stanford 9 test.

Woodson sports are off to a successful start. The golf team beat Marshall in a 150-178 match at the Country Club of Fairfax. The boys and girls cross-country teams won in meets against Langley, Lee and Marshall on Tuesday. Joel Censer led the boys with a time of 17:15, and Kate Griendling outran the girls with 20:43. The Varsity Volleyball team swept Marshall 3-0.

The Frost Night football game against Madison will be Friday, Sept. 27, featuring Outback Steakhouse. Frost and Woodson bands will perform. Proceeds from food and raffle tickets benefit both band programs.
