On Thursday, April 3, South Lakes hosted the traveling choir and band from a Minnesota high school for a concert presented to the students and faculty that morning. Choral and band students from both South Lakes and the visiting school performed. The South Lakes Singers sang two pieces, one of them the spiritual "Steal Away" with soloists Courtney Martin and Mari Oikawa. The choral repertoire of the guest
school included five pieces, among which were spirituals and patriotic hymns. The bands from both schools played John P. Zdechlik's "Chorale and Shaker Dance," and the South Lakes Jazz band performed "A Night in Tunisia" and "Harlem Nocturne."
South Lakes' very own dance teacher Terlene D. Terry-Todd will travel to Athens, Greece this spring to take part in the "Performing Arts in Schools for Young Children Project: Making the Connections." The project will run from May 21 to June 3, and Ms. Terry-Todd will have the opportunity to teach in a number of Athens area schools in addition to leading staff development workshops.
