<sh>Dog In Car

<bt>On March 29, at 2:55 p.m., Animal Control Officers responded to a parking lot for a report of a dog left unattended in a car for at least one hour in the 10600 block of Braddock Road in the West Springfield area.

When the officers arrived, the dog was found on the floorboard of the car panting heavily. The interior temperature of the car was determined to be in excess of 120 degrees. The dog was removed from the car and taken to a veterinary clinic, then transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

A short time later, the dog's owner contacted Animal Control and told the officers she was at a movie and did not want to leave her dog at home, said Animal Control sources. Dolores T. Gerber, 44, of Walnut Hill Lane in the Falls Church area was charged with failing to provide adequate shelter for her dog. The dog will remain at the Animal Shelter pending a court hearing.

<sh>Dog Bite

<bt>A Fairfax County Animal Control Officer is investigating an incident which occurred on April 1, at 5:50 p.m. Around that time, two dogs were reported running unleashed when one of the dogs bit a 4-year-old boy. The boy had a small red mark on his nose and a scratch on his cheek.

Animal Control Officers are looking for a black dog similar to a Labrador with a red nylon collar. The second dog was a brown and black mixed Shepherd with a blue collar. Anyone with information on these dogs or their owners is asked to call Fairfax County Animal Control at 703-266-6490.

<sh>Carjacking

<bt>Fairfax County Police are investigating a carjacking that occurred on Sunday, March 30, in the parking lot of the Bob Evans Restaurant, located at 6310 Augusta Drive in the Springfield area.

A 57-year-old Illinois man pulled into the parking lot and was approached by a man, who pointed a gun at him and demanded he get out of the car. The suspect then pushed the man out of the way and got into the car and drove away. The victim was not injured.

The stolen car, which is property of National Car Rental, is a silver 2003 four-door Oldsmobile Alero with Pennsylvania license plates EXZ-9772. The suspect is described as black, in his twenties, approximately six-feet tall with short black hair. He was wearing a red jacket and blue pants. <sh>Dillard Announces Re-election Bid

<bt>Del. James H. Dillard II (R) announced that he is seeking re-election as the 41st District's representative to the Virginia House of Delegates. Dillard, who chairs the Committee on Education, began his service in the General Assembly in 1972.

In a press release, Dillard identified three themes that will be central to his 2003 election campaign: full funding for education, protection of natural resources and improvement in the state's management of transportation,

health care and public safety.
