<sh>Cause Found In Owen's Death

<bt>Fairfax county investigators ruled the death of Terri Lynn Owen of Herndon to be an "apparent suicide." Owen, 44, a former United Flight attendant and union representative, died when she fell from the top floor of the four-story Herndon-Monroe parking garage in Reston last month.

<sh>Traffic Signal System Upgraded

<bt>An upgrade of the Town of Herndon's traffic signal system was recently completed in an attempt to reduce overall delays on Herndon's major roads.

Synchronized timing coordinates traffic signals to work together as a network. Timing is prioritized based on traffic flow at different times of the day. Signals along the Herndon Parkway have been synchronized to encourage its use as an alternative to Elden Street.

Wireless radio communication allows the Town Shop to monitor and adjust the system, providing for a quick response to signal problems. This is helpful in events such as traffic accidents. Overall adjustments will be made if needed over the next few months.

The upgrade was funded by Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grants and administered by the Virginia Department of Transportation. An additional CMAQ grant will fund coordination of the town's system and VDOT's signals at South Elden Street and Fairfax County Parkway. To provide feedback on the signals, call the Department of Public Works at 703-435-6853.
