Herndon Man Killed in Accident

<bt>Robert Baucom, 32, of Florida Avenue, was killed Sunday, Aug. 10, when according to the Fairfax County police, he lost control of his car on the ramp to Fairfax County Parkway at Braddock Road.

According to police, at around 8 p.m., the man was driving westbound on Braddock Road and lost control of his Mazda RX-7 as he turned right onto the ramp to the parkway. The car spun, hit the jersey barrier on the driver’s side and burst into flames. Police said speed was a factor.

<sh>Man Hospitalized

<bt> A 52-year-old Herndon man remained hospitalized Monday after a single vehicle accident this weekend.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department, the driver, Joseph Wilkins, and a 12-year-old passenger were traveling westbound in a 1997 Mercury sport utility vehicle on Lockridge Road in Loudoun County just west of Moran Road when for unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle traveled up an embankment and eventually rolled over after it sideswiped a telephone pole. The driver, who was apparently not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle.

Wilkins was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was listed in good condition. His 12-year-old passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Loudoun Hospital where he was treated and released on Saturday.
