John Wotherspoon, 39, of Leesburg, is training for the 20th Annual Make-A-Wish Sea Colony Triathlon, scheduled for Sept. 20 in Bethany Beach, Del. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic hosts the event to help fulfill the wishes of area children fighting life-threatening medical conditions. The race is Wotherspoon’s first triathlon and first time competing for The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Loudoun Academy of the Arts Foundation recently elected officers who will serve on the executive committee of the organization:

President: Jill Beach

Vice president: Roberta Comrie

Secretary: Peggy King

Recording secretary: Gale Waldron

Treasurer: Simon Bland

Additional members of the Board of Directors include Ann Baird, Iain Baird, Jan Boothby, Di Cook, Fred Hetzel, Nan Ferguson, Ann Noel, Linda Rodimon, Stan Rodimon, Wiley Russell and Virginia Treviranus.

Frank D. Lombardi, Jr. of Leesburg is a recipient of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's 2003 Personal Achievement Award for Virginia. Lombardi, 45, was selected for the honor because of his leadership role in the local MDA community and his advocacy for people with disabilities.

The honor is part of MDA's annual national award program recognizing the personal and professional accomplishments and community service of people with any of the neuromuscular diseases in MDA's program.

Lombardi, a husband and father of an 8-year-old daughter, is a technical writer in safety and security procedures for Lockheed Martin.
