Rabid Skunk Killed

<bt>A skunk that was killed by a dog Tuesday, Aug. 19, tested positive for the rabies virus. Around 10:30 a.m., last Tuesday, a Herndon-area woman reported that her dog, Tee, killed a skunk in the backyard of her Colewood Street home. The skunk was transported to and tested by the Fairfax County Health Department and was determined to be positive for the virus. The dog was current on its rabies vaccination, but will be quarantined for 45 days.

<sh>Occupancy Violations Meeting

<bt>The Herndon Community Association will be playing host to a town meeting on excessive occupancy and related neighborhoods issues within the Town of Herndon. Town staff will be at the meeting to outline the town's procedures and initiatives regarding the investigation and enforcement of excessive occupancy violations and to answer any questions.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m., in the Herndon Middle School auditorium, 901 Locust St.

<sh>Rust Kicks Off Campaign

<bt>Del. Thomas Rust (R-86) will hold his official re-election campaign kick off Thursday, Aug. 28, 6:30 p.m., at the empty lot next to Paul Brothers Subaru at the intersection of Elden and Center streets. In event of rain, the event will be moved to Rust Champaign Headquarters, 230 Herndon Parkway, on the second floor of the BB&T Center in Herndon.
