<sh>Traffic Pattern Change

<bt>Effective since Aug. 25, the City of Fairfax implemented a change in traffic pattern at the intersection of Route 236 and Route 123 (Main Street and Chain Bridge Road). This change will be implemented on a 90-day trial basis.

Southbound Route 123 traffic will be prohibited from turning left onto eastbound Route 236 at all times.

Drivers who wish to travel eastbound on Main Street will be re-routed to turn right onto North Street, proceed to the intersection with West Street, then turn left onto eastbound Main Street.

Traffic counts and travel times were measured prior to the change, and additional data will be collected afterward to gauge the level of success of this action.

<sh>Fairfax Boy Nearly Drowns

<bt>The City of Fairfax Police are investigating a near drowning of a 13-year-old boy that occurred on Friday, Aug. 22 at approximately 1:45 p.m.

A lifeguard at the Great Oaks Community Pool, located at 3200 Beech Tree Court in Fairfax, observed a person at the bottom of the pool. The lifeguard entered the water, pulled him out and immediately began resuscitation efforts. A citizen dialed 911 and reported the possible drowning of the boy. The City of Fairfax Fire Department responded to the call and found the lifeguard performing CPR on the person. Fire and Rescue personnel took over those efforts upon their arrival. The child was then transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

At this time, there appears to be no signs of foul play. Detectives from the department's Criminal Investigations Divisions are investigating the incident.
